Fire, rain and Jared Huffman
Jared Huffman has been the U.S. Congressman from California’s 2nd Congressional District since 2013. The most picturesque district in all of Congress, it runs from the Golden Gate Bridge all the way to the Oregon Border. Huffman represents the thoughts and wishes of the residents of most of Sonoma County, and Marin, Mendocino, Humboldt, Trinity and Del Norte counties.
Before being elected to Congress, Huffman spent six years in the California Assembly. It was there that he developed his reputation as an effective, environmentally minded politician.
But before all that, while he was just a tall, gangly kid, Huffman discovered the guitar. Playing mainly in his room, an experience young guitar players know all too well, Huffman taught himself how to play, with heavy emphasis his favorite guitarist, James Taylor.
Recently, Huffman took a well-deserved break from researching issues, writings bills and returning calls to constituents, to play a few songs on his guitar with this guitar picker. We sat in the courtyard of his San Rafael office, which is in an environmentally friendly mixed-use building of residential, retail and business.
